Dog Trainer Teaches Mans Best Friend to Drive Video

In the hope of demonstrating the intelligence of rescued dogs, The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and its trainers has taught three dogs in New Zealand how to drive a car.

Monty, Ginny, and Potter were trained by Mark Vette on how to operate a manual transmission, release a brake, and even steer a car. Of course the dogs need assistance from their trainers, but that doesn’t take away from the feat that Vette has achieved with the lovable canines.

It took five weeks of indoor training to teach the dogs how to touch and move brakes, shifters, and steering wheels. Once they had mastered the basics movements of operating a fake vehicle, they were put behind the steering wheel and in front of the cameras to show off what they’ve been trained. It was a total of seven weeks before they got their paws on a real car.
